But, looking closer, blogging is still great for sharing ideas, building trust, along with several other blogging benefits.
Things like voice search and generated AI search results comes from blogs.
Blogging is still valuable because it can change and grow and because the tools being used to deliver answers to people come from blogs. Bloggers work hard, spending 10 to 50 hours a week on their posts. Their dedication and quality attract readers. Also, bloggers can make money—sometimes earning up to 90% of sales through affiliate programs.
And the best part is that it's not even all that hard (technically). Starting a blog is easy and cheap, with costs ranging from $30 to $75 in the first year. WordPress powers over 60% of blogs, offering great options for all. And there are a lot of hosting companies right now that make it really easy to get your blog up and running fast without spending a lot of money.
Blogging offers many ways to make money. You can earn from affiliate marketing, ads, and selling products. Some bloggers make $250,000 to $500,000 a year, showing blogging's earning potential.

Blogging in 2025 has many benefits for individuals and businesses. It's a key tool for SEO and building authority. Knowing these benefits can help you use blogging to your advantage.

One big blogging benefit in 2025 is getting more organic traffic. Websites with blogs get up to 75% more visitors than those without. Using SEO on blogs can increase organic traffic by 58%, showing how important keywords are.

In 2025, bloggers will face big challenges. Some challenges are the same as they've always been, others are new just due to changes . Two main problems are content saturation and adapting to algorithms.
Content Saturation
The internet is more crowded than ever. With over 600 million active blogs as of 2022, it's hard for blogs to get noticed. In the U.S., there are about 32 million bloggers.
Every day, over 2 million blog posts are published. This makes it tough to stand out from the crowd. Bloggers need to create unique and high-quality content to be heard.
Adapting to Changing Algorithms
Over 71% of bloggers say SEO is key to getting traffic. But search algorithms change just as much as social media algorithms do, which makes keeping up a little hard.
Sometimes these changes work out great—shaking up the ranking results and helping smaller sites get to the top.
Other times? Not so much. More and more search rankings are being overrun with content farms who are running ads or affiliate offers (or both), using their large size to their advantage. (I mean… should Forbes actually be ranking for a search like “Christmas Gifts for Teen Girls”??)
Other changes are the result of how people are searching now versus how they used to search. More and more people are turning to alternative places to find their answers, such as social media, voice searches like Alexa or Siri, and AI chats.
The Role of AI in Blogging
Artificial Intelligence is changing the blogging world. Not only is it changing how people search the internet to find their answers, it also offers new ways to create content and improve SEO.
Bloggers use AI to make content faster and more effective.
AI-Driven Content Creation
AI helps bloggers make quality content quickly. It can write blog posts and other content, saving time and money. Tools like Grammarly and ChatGPT can write a blog post in minutes and, while not perfect, they aren't always horrible, either.
AI also helps when repurposing content from one type to another. Podcasters can get their show notes published to their blog or turned into a script for video much more easily than doing it by hand or hiring a writer to do it for them now. Earlier this year, I worked with my client, Cayla Craft, creating articles for her blog based on the show notes from her podcast which not only increased the traffic to her blog, but also ended up growing her reach on Pinterest by 3800% in just 2 months—just by having the content there for her to pin. We were also able to grow her reach on LinkedIn by posting summaries and links to these articles over there.
Even bloggers who don't use AI to write their content can still use AI to speed up their process and smooth out their workflow. AI can be used to research different topics, do keyword research, sift through ideas, and brainstorm content, leaving you with just the actual writing.
In Google's E-E-A-T (Expertise, Experience, Authority, Trustworthiness) considerations, AI cannot add in the Experience or the Trustworthiness—because it has no experience, and that experience is a significant part of the trustworthiness. It can sometimes bring in the fact and tips, depending on the topicAI is best for starting and brainstorming, while humans add the rest. And even then, AI sometimes just makes things up because the algorithm forces an answer even when it can't find one.
That hasn't stopped some people from riding that AI content creation train.
Already there are estimates that nearly 60% of all content being posted is AI generated, and there are some estimates that this will increase to 90% by 2026.
There is now so much AI content being published, that search engines are struggling with how to index, sort, and filter through them all. And their answer was to build AI into their own systems.
And as maddening as that is, I can't really blame them. Trying to crawl your way through hundreds of pages that all basically say the same thing because they are AI regurgitations of the same content just to send someone to a link that may or may not hold any real value—I'd rather just keep that traffic too.
Google's updates in 2022 and 2024 emphasize content quality, the E-E-A-T I mentioned earlier. While it has no stance, per se, on using AI to write and publish content, any AI-generated content must still be high-quality to get SEO benefits. So, all in all, using AI for ideas and drafts, then refining with human touch, is still the best strategy if you want to use AI to generate content.

AI is great for SEO. I have found it useful for creating meta data information, summaries, and even rewriting bits and pieces to be used in social media posts. It finds the best keywords for blog posts, making them easier to find. And AI is great for helping me break down and analyze data so I can make sound, data-driven decisions about my blog moving forward.
AI helps bloggers keep up with search trends, improving their rankings. It also finds new audiences and marketing trends, increasing blog reach and engagement. Blogs are still a top way to attract visitors, and AI helps keep them effective.

It seems like everywhere we turn, people are talking about the shrinking attention spans of humans.
I don't fully agree with that statement—I think our attention is just as short as it's always been—but I do agree that if you don't grab our attention quickly, you lose us forever.
This means making headlines that pop and using visuals that draw you in. And then providing engaging and entertaining content throughout to keep that attention once you have it.
If you use a really great hook and draw someone in, but then you go on to recite the dictionary, it's not going to matter how great that hook was—you're going to lose people.
And it's not because we don't have the attention span…it's because we don't want to use our attention span to read the dictionary. We have a lot of things vying for our attention, and we're going to be discerning about where it goes.
Longer content often gets more engagement and conversions. Blog posts and sales pages that are longer tend to do better than shorter ones. But, that doesn't mean short ones don't work. You need to find a balance and determine what your audience responds to. Short, impactful content can always lead people to more detailed pieces.
This is one reason why you'll find a lot of longer blog posts using headings, bulleted lists, and tables. These visual breaks make long content easier to read and digest. It allows people to skim and find exactly what they want without feeling like they're being forced to drudge through the rest.
Creating a Mobile-First Reading Experience
Mobile-first blogging experience has been an important ranking factor since 2015. And in 2024, Google started using its Mobile Googlebot exclusively to crawl and index the internet.
Now, I am one of those remaining dinosaur holdouts who still uses desktop for almost everything (I don't even like checking my email on my mobile phone, to be honest). So I'll be the first to admit that I sometimes forget to check what my site looks like on a mobile device.
But even with that, I know how important mobile-first formatting and navigation is important.
To get more people to engage with your blog on mobile, keep things simple and to the point. Use short, powerful posts and smart formatting like bullet points and bold text. This makes it easier for people to understand your content. I've also found it helpful to cut out some images in favor of headings and buttons to make the page easier to skim without a lot of scrolling.
I've also found that mobile designs need to have even higher contrasts to desktop designs. Using bold colors for Call-To-Actions helps them stand out and encourage action.
To keep users interested, make your design fast by optimizing images and focusing on the most important content. Use fewer fonts and colors to reduce bounce rates and improve engagement on mobile. Designers should create detailed plans and test them to ensure a smooth experience on all devices.
The ideal size for touchscreen targets is 7–10mm for the best user experience. This size makes it easier for users to navigate and enjoy your blog.
In short, a mobile-first blog design meets user needs and makes your blog more accessible to the growing number of mobile users worldwide. Mobile usage has become so important, Google doesn't even try to look at what the site will look like on a desktop—they literally only use their Mobile Googlebot for testing, crawling, and indexing.

In 2025, making money from blogs is a big deal. I don't know about you, but trying to keep an eye on the news and economy around here ends up giving me anxiety. Like many bloggers, I want to turn my online work into a steady income so that things happening around the country or in the government don't have to have disastrous effects on me.
This is where learning about affiliate marketing and selling digital products can help bloggers make money to supplement their income (or, in some cases, as their primary source of income).
Affiliate Marketing

Choosing the right blogging platform is key to your success. WordPress and Medium offer unique benefits for different needs.
WordPress
WordPress is a top choice, powering 42% of all websites and holding 63.1% of CMS market share. It offers thousands of themes and plugins for customization. This is great for those who want control over their site's look and SEO.
WordPress is easy to use, even for new bloggers. While WordPress.com is free, a self-hosted blog gives more control. Posting regularly is important for keeping readers engaged and improving search rankings.
Setting up WordPress takes some time, but the benefits are worth it. You can start making money within six months to a year.
Now, that's not to say that things on WordPress are all rainbows. Earlier this year, WordPress did find itself in a bit of drama when one of the largest hosting companies specializing in WordPress got banned from the WordPress repository and there was some backlash.
Since then, there have been a few other plugin developers that have pulled their plugins away from WordPress, prompting WordPress core developers to take action and develop, buy, or recreate replacements. Honestly, I'm not sure what sort of impact this is going to have on anything yet, as it's still very new. And I'm not using any of the warring plugins, so it hasn't had a direct effect on my site yet.
